Let’s look forward not back, time to forget about Kyogo and Giakoumakis

We need to look forward not back. Forget Kyogo and Giakoumakis...

Two former Celtic favourites have been linked with a move back to Glasgow in the past week, and it’s fair to say that plenty of Celtic supporters would welcome a move for either player.

Those players are Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis. Two names who need no introduction to Celtic fans, and ones whose talent is unquestionable. For me however, as much as I admired and respected both players for their efforts in the Hoops, it’s time we moved on and looked to the future, and that means recruiting new younger and hungrier talent.

We often get accused of lazy scouting, and rightly so on occasion, and a move for two former players who happen to be available has all the hallmarks of lazy scouting, wouldn’t you agree?

Kyogo’s stock has fallen drastically since his ill-advised move to Rennes almost a year ago, whilst Giakoumakis has become something of a career journeyman looking for one last big payday. That doesn’t inspire great confidence does it?

Think about it, if they had no connection with the club whatsoever, would there be such a clamber to bring them to Celtic Park?

What we need is hungry and somewhat experienced players, ones who have still to reach the peak of their career. Players who have it all to prove, who will contribute massively to the club in its everlasting pursuit of success.

Guys like Diego Rossi, Ibrahim Diabate, Sam Surridge and Jocelin Ta Bi have been mentioned in recent days, and that’s the sort of talent we should be looking at. Of course we know next to nothing about them, but they all match the profile we are looking for in a player.

More importantly they are players at the start or entering the peak of their careers. Ones with a lot to prove. It’s time we looked forward, not back.
