Manchester United now appear to be focusing on bringing in a new left-back at Old Trafford.
United were expected to go all out to land a third midfielder after securing the services of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
On Tuesday, The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet revealed that the United staff are considering where next to put their resources, and it is now “not certain that another player arrives” in midfield.
Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall has emerged as Manchester United’s preferred defensive target.
With Tyrell Malacia now out the door, Luke Shaw is the only recognised left-back at Michael Carrick’s disposal. The United boss reportedly prefers Patrick Dorgu in a more advanced left-wing position.
Hall is viewed as an ideal target, as he offers the athleticism, technical security, and tactical intelligence needed to help United build play from the back or go more direct.
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, United continue to chase Hall and are willing to pay up to £60 million to Newcastle to prise the England international away from St James’ Park.
However, Newcastle are thought to be under no financial pressure to sanction Hall’s sale.
They have already made around £250 million from the sales of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes.
Furthermore, Hall has three years remaining on his contract with the Magpies. As such, the player, who is understood to be open to moving to Old Trafford, cannot do much to force his current side’s hand.
Crook adds that it is going to be a “difficult deal” for the Red Devils.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have scouted Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini, who can play across a back three or back four.
