Manchester United’s pursuit of Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall may have just taken a complicated turn. The Red Devils remain linked with several potential successors to Luke Shaw, whose contract expires at the end of next season.
The Englishman has been in rejuvenated form this season and has started all 37 Premier League games to date, a feat he has never managed in his career. However, Shaw will turn 31 in July and has a very poor injury record, so it is unclear whether he can maintain his recent momentum next season.
The Premier League giants have Patrick Dorgu in their squad, who played mostly as a left-sided wing-back under former head coach Ruben Amorim. However, the Dane has been deployed higher up the pitch with good effect by caretaker manager Michael Carrick and could be in line for a positional switch next season.
The situation could tempt United to consider replacements, and a previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggested that Hall has emerged as an option.
Hall played as a midfielder during his formative years at Chelsea before switching to a full-back role, which perhaps explains his impressive abilities on the ball and his composure in possession. The 21 year old is press-resistant and operates mostly as an attacking left-back.
Hall’s ability to switch play and spray passes makes him a fine option for United, while his tendency to bomb forward also suits Carrick’s style of play. Although Shaw scored his first goal of the season in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend, the Red Devils need more attacking impetus from the position.
Hall’s abilities make him a fantastic option for the job. This season, the young Englishman has registered one goal and two assists in 46 appearances across all competitions, including 34 starts.

A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that Hall is open to an exit from St James’ Park this summer amid interest from United. An update on the player’s future has now emerged.
A report from Chronicle Live has rubbished talk of Hall’s possible move to Old Trafford this summer, insisting that the player is more likely to sign a new deal with the Magpies. It states: “Newcastle United sources have dismissed talk of Lewis Hall and Man United as speculative.”
“Only on Friday Eddie Howe said he plans to keep Hall and Tino Livramento for ‘years to come’. The club are in ongoing discussions with Livramento on a new deal and Hall is a boyhood Newcastle fan so will be more than open to similar talks.”
Hall is under contract at St. James’ Park until 2029, so Newcastle are under no pressure to let him go.
United have to put succession plans in place for Shaw soon and Hall is exactly the kind of player they should target. However, unless INEOS can convince the youngster to leave, they may be forced to consider alternative options.
