Liam Rosenior says there is no fixed hierarchy between Filip Jörgensen and Robert Sanchez in Chelsea's goal. According to L'Équipe, the head coach set out his stance on Friday.
The 41-year-old, who arrived in January, is prioritising competition over continuity, even for such a specialist role. He handed Jörgensen a start in the 4-1 win at Aston Villa, three days after Sanchez had looked uncertain in the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Rosenior said he judges the goalkeeper position on a match-by-match basis and wants competition across the pitch. He rejected the notion that a change automatically establishes a new number one, stressing he is simply picking the best team for each game.
He added that while continuity matters, winning matters more. He felt the decision at Villa was vindicated and hopes future calls prove equally sound.
Rosenior has not named his starter for Saturday's FA Cup tie at 18:45 away to the Welsh side Wrexham in the second division, nor for next Wednesday's Champions League round of 16 first leg against Paris Saint-Germain at 21:00.
