It was an evening press conference for Chelsea after they touched down in Naples, and Liam Rosenior had a lot of topics to cover after another busy week.

Something that’s been plaguing the new manager since he took the job is speculation about Cole Palmer. The attacker has struggled for fitness and form this season, and that’s led to many rumours about him wanting to leave.
Rosenior has been forced to answer many questions about it already, and today produced his strongest denial yet:
“There’s no reason for assurances,” he said when asked whether the sporting directors had promised him that Palmer was going nowhere.
“It’s so unrealistic. It’s come from nowhere. There’s nothing in it. There’s no reason to have the conversation. That’s where I’m at. Cole is very happy. I’ve had numerous conversations with him. Our thoughts are on how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him.
“He loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player. You can’t stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth. There’s no point in having a discussion about it.”
We understand the question, and we understand his frustration. Sadly there’s nothing anyone can really do about it until Palmer is back on the pitch playing well and smiling.
Chelsea are still planning to sell Tyrique George this month, but so far there’s been very little talk about a concrete offer. Things need to speed up this week if we’re to move the winger on.
It’s pretty clear that Chelsea are considering a signing in this window – but one of the linked options now appears to be off the table as Douglas Luiz closes in on a move to Aston Villa.
