Strasbourg forward Joaquin Panichelli has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, ending his World Cup hopes.
The Argentina national team said on Friday he hurt his right knee in training the previous day, then confirmed the ACL rupture after further tests.

Panichelli is Ligue 1’s leading scorer with 16 goals for Strasbourg this season.
The 23-year-old received his first senior call-up in November.
He had been due to feature in a friendly against Mauritania in Buenos Aires overnight from Friday to Saturday.
