According to a report from Foot Mercato and confirmed by L’Équipe, Lille OSC are close to securing Chuba Akpom (29) from Ajax. The French side are hoping to agree on a loan deal with the option to buy the former Arsenal academy product.
Bringing in a new striker has been a clear target for Lille this winter. Mohamed Bayo (despite starting last night in Lille’s 6-1 victory over Feyenoord) has looked close to a departure and has been linked with a loan to Royal Antwerp.

While, Jonathan David is in the final six months of his contract. The former Middlesbrough forward could provide additional support for David until the end of the season and perhaps be bedded into the club for next season.
Lille take the lead in race for Chuba Akpom
Lille are not the only team interested in Akpom. Foot Mercato reported a week ago that Championship side Sunderland had also entered the race.
