Lille’s Ethan Mbappé to undergo surgery on his hamstring | OneFootball

A less-than-ideal first season at Lille OSC for Ethan Mbappé (18) has ended under challenging circumstances. The younger brother of French captain and Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé (26) suffered a hamstring injury in the second half of his team’s 2-0 victory over Angers SCO last Sunday.

The Montreuil-born midfielder has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. The younger Mbappé joined Lille last July, signing a three-year contract until 2027.

He’s had his share of injury issues this season and will undergo surgery on his hamstring next week. L’Équipe understands that he could be sidelined for several months.

In his first season for Les Dogues, Mbappé has only featured in eight Ligue 1 fixtures for Bruno Génésio’s men.

Before coming to Lille, he played alongside older brother Kylian at Paris Saint-Germain, making three Ligue 1 appearances in the French top-flight last season and winning the domestic crown while also winning the Coupe de France with them in 2023-24, playing in three matches.

Lille host Olympique de Marseille on Sunday at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, having won their last three domestic affairs. Lille have also won their previous four Ligue 1 fixtures on home soil, defeating AJ Auxerre 3-1 a couple of weeks ago.

Ethan Mbappé helped the PSG U-19 team capture the Championnat National a season ago.
