Liverpool and Aston Villa Loanees Set to Head Back Early

Roma are attempting to engineer a few transfers to fuel their Scudetto hopes, but they also need to make room, so Leon Bailey and Kostas Tsimikas could be sent back to Aston Villa and Liverpool, ending their loan spells prematurely, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Fantacalcio).

Neither has been convincing and managed to become regulars, even though the Giallorossi have often been short-handed. The speedster started the season behind the eight-ball from a physical standpoint due to a significant thigh strain. He had a minor relapse a few weeks after returning and has had a small role since. He has made nine appearances, starting once and providing one assist.

The decision to part ways with Tsimikas and Bailey is more technical than economic, but Roma will have to haggle with Liverpool and Aston Villa. They’re covering their wages for the entire campaign and paid €3M to have the latter temporarily.

The Giallorossi would like to onboard two new attackers. Ideally, the first one would be Joshua Zirkzee. They’ll have to wait until mid-January and convince Manchester United to lower their request, Gianluca Di Marzio relays. They are also working tirelessly to add Giacomo Raspadori, Alfredo Pedullà reports. Tommaso Baldanzi and Stephan El Shaarawy could also depart if necessary.

Our Take on Roma, Bailey, and Tsimikas

They had high hopes especially for the Jamaican winger, who possesses the traits to thrive in their scheme, but he struggled to hit his stride after the early injury. They are thin across multiple roles while AFCON 2025 is ongoing, so they’ll probably wait a few weeks before trimming their squad, unless they are swift to find the replacements, but that’s rarely the case in January.
