Liverpool and several Premier League clubs are monitoring Sunderland loanee Lutsharel Geertruida ahead of a possible summer move. TEAMtalk reports that Aston Villa, Everton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace are among those tracking the Netherlands defender.
The 25-year-old is on loan at the Stadium of Light from RB Leipzig, and has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season. Sunderland have an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the campaign.
Liverpool made an attempt to sign him in January during a defensive injury crisis at Anfield, with Arne Slot viewing his former Feyenoord player as a short-term solution. The move fell through when Sunderland were unable to source a replacement before the deadline.
Any deal is likely to cost around £20 million, and while Sunderland hold an advantage through their option, the player’s preference could be decisive. The report added that he is content on Wearside, though his representatives are aware of opportunities elsewhere and abroad.
Head coach Le Bris has praised Geertruida’s versatility and accepted it can complicate his push to become a regular starter, with the World Cup also in his thoughts. Slot said in winter that Liverpool tried to strengthen, but Geertruida was not available and he felt a signing would have helped.
