Liverpool are preparing a record opening bid for Newcastle United forward, Alexander Isak that could have cascading consequences for Eintracht Frankfurt and Hugo Ekitike, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Only Liverpool talisman, Mo Salah scored more goals (29) than Isak (23) in the Premier League season and the Reds are keen to secure the Swedish striker’s signature.
Isak is reportedly valued at £120million ($138.4m) by Liverpool.
Liverpool have already broken their transfer record once this summer, to sign Germany international, Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and could do so again to buy Isak.
The Swede has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies after signing for £60m ($80.5m) from Real Sociedad.
However, Liverpool are also interested in Hugo Ekitike.
Ekitike scored 15 goals and made eight assists for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, and shone in the Europa League with seven goal contributions (4G, 3A).
The French forward is valued at over £70 million (€80.7m) and has garnered interest across Europe.
Champions League-bound, Newcastle United have already had their €80 million bid for Ekitike rejected today.
Newcastle tried and failed to sign Ekitike in 2022 when he chose PSG instead.
Frankfurt then paid PSG just £14m for the 23-year-old last summer.
Now Liverpool are threatening to hijack the transfer if they fail to lure Isak to Anfield.
According to Plettenberg, one club has verbally indicated to Frankfurt that they are willing to pay more than Newcastle and Manchester United are ‘very interested’ in Ekitike.
Newcastle state that Isak is not for sale, but with Liverpool knocking at Frankfurt’s door for their transfer target, Ekitike, the club may have to re-evaluate their position.
