A long list of Mo Salah replacements has already been drawn up, and potentially the most surprising name mentioned is Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye.
The 26-year-old Senegal international has impressed for the Toffees this season and now, according to TEAMtalk, finds himself on Liverpool’s shortlist ahead of the summer.
No player has moved directly from Everton to Liverpool for 24 years, since Abel Xavier made the move in 2002.
The report claims that both Manchester United and Juventus are also interested in the dynamic forward, and that Everton are under very little pressure to sell with Ndiaye under contract until 2029.
Ndiaye, who is valued at €42.5 million (~£37m) by FootballTransfers, has six goals and three assists for Everton this campaign and has become a key part of the Everton team that is now pushing for European football.
A deal won’t be straightforward for Richard Hughes and Liverpool’s recruitment team, and Everton would likely be very reluctant to let one of their best talents go to their biggest rival.
Regardless of the complexities involved, Liverpool seem set on at least exploring a deal for Ndiaye.
Several other players will no doubt also be in the frame to replace Salah and return the Reds back to the top of English football, but if a deal can be worked out with Everton it may well be Ndiaye that makes the switch to Anfield.
