Liverpool have submitted a contract renewal offer to France international centre-back Ibrahima Konaté (26), according to L’Equipe. The FC Sochaux Academy graduate has entered the final months of the five-year contract he signed with the Reds back in 2021. Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in a reported €40m transfer fee. He established himself as one of the best right-sided centre-backs in Europe alongside Virgil van Dijk.
L’Equipe reports that Liverpool have initiated contract renewal talks with Konaté less than a year ago. In December, the Reds reportedly submitted an offer that didn’t match the Frenchman’s status as an undisputed starter for the prospective Premier League champions. Contract renewal talks were then put to a halt for several months, given Konaté intended to focus on Liverpool’s season, which culminated with a league-equalling record 20th title.
The outlet adds that Liverpool restructured their offer on more than one occasion; their latest bid landed on the negotiating table two weeks ago. Talks remain underway between all parties involved, but L’Equipe understands that Liverpool remain confident that an agreement will eventually be reached. Several clubs, including Real Madrid, continue to monitor Konaté’s contractual situation.
