Liverpool will welcome back several first-team players for Sunday’s friendly with Leeds United in Chicago, with a £60million summer arrival set for a debut, but Joe Gomez has been ruled out. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the match at Solder Field starts at nine pm UK time.
Both teams arrive after 1-0 wins over Sunderland and Wrexham respectively, Daniel Farke’s side winning through a Lukas Nmecha goal overnight.
Ryan Gravenberch, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have returned to training, and new head coach Andoni Iraola said his plan is to hand them minutes on Sunday alongside centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, signed from Stade Rennais earlier this summer. He added they would be eased in and should be ready for their first minutes at the weekend.
Jacquet’s availability comes with Liverpool light at the back, with Virgil van Dijk yet to join the US tour after his World Cup and Giovani Leoni sidelined for almost a year. Gomez missed Wrexham after a muscle issue suffered 10 minutes into the Sunderland game and will also miss the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Iraola said the defender faces weeks out, around a month if recovery goes well, and that a return for the opener is unlikely.
Leeds have issues of their own, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol yet to feature in the US, while Sebastiaan Bornauw returned to start against Sunderland and goalkeeper Lucas Perri missed out with a knock.
