According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Liverpool will welcome back a number of first-team players, including a £60m summer signing, for Sunday’s pre-season meeting with Leeds United, while Joe Gomez faces a spell out.

Leeds round off their US tour against the Merseyside club at Solder Field in Chicago on Sunday, with kick-off at nine pm UK time. Both arrive after 1-0 wins, Leeds beat Sunderland through a Lukas Nmecha goal, Liverpool edged Wrexham.

Liverpool are starting to reintegrate their World Cup contingent, with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz back in training. Manager Andoni Iraola intends to hand that trio minutes against Leeds, alongside centre-back Jeremy Jacquet following his move from Stade Rennais. He will manage workloads and believes they should be ready for their first minutes.

Jacquet’s return is timely given a lack of experience in defence. Virgil van Dijk has not joined the American tour after his World Cup efforts, while Giovani Leoni has been sidelined for almost a year.

Gomez went off with a muscle problem 10 minutes into the opener against Sunderland and missed the Wrexham win. Iraola said he will be out for weeks, roughly a month being a typical timeframe, and that Leeds and the Premier League start will come too soon.

Leeds also have fitness concerns, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol yet to feature in the US. Sebastiaan Bornauw returned from a minor issue to start against Sunderland, while goalkeeper Lucas Perri missed out with a knock.
