Liverpool could be about to send €10m to Real Madrid as they look into a surprise deal. Few saw this coming.

Liverpool's hunt for a new attacking player has taken an interesting twist. Ideal reports that they're looking at Sergio Arribas of Almeria in the Spanish Segunda División.

Now, that's not as mad as it first looks on the face of it. Arribas scored 25 times last season in the league and assisted another seven, playing both from the right and as an attacking midfielder.

Those are exceptional numbers - Liverpool would just be banking on him reproducing some of it at a much higher level. That's certainly not impossible, though.

What's extra interesting about this one, though, is that Real Madrid are once again involved. Arribas came from their academy before moving to Almeria and Los Blancos retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause.

That's according to A Bola, reporting on Benfica's interest. They also claim that Almeria would sell for around €20m, meaning Real Madrid are set to bank another €10m.

It comes hot on the heels of them securing a portion of the fee that took Victor Munoz from Osasuna to Liverpool. Munoz also came from their academy and they once again had a sell-on clause.

It feels like half of Europe does, though. Chema Andres at Suttgart also has that same clause, as do the likes of Nico Paz and Jacob Ramon at Como.

All players that Liverpool will have at least had a look at. We're certainly big, big fans of Chema.

Arribas would be an unusual signing, given where he's playing but potentially a sensible one. He would command a starting role, nor would he bring expectations that are through the roof.

But he may be able to tide Liverpool over to next summer when they can reassess the winger market. Right now, we feel that's probably the best they can do.

And it's certainly what Real Madrid will want to hear.
