Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Roma are in talks with Liverpool over a potential loan move for Greek full-back Kostas Tsimikas. With the Serie A side eager to strengthen their defensive options, Tsimikas has emerged as a serious candidate to fill the deputy role behind Angelino.
Roma’s need for reinforcements has only grown following Bailey’s arrival, who suffered an injury almost immediately after joining. As Di Marzio highlighted, “Roma are looking for a left-back: Liverpool’s Tsimikas is the new name on the list.” The club remain intent on plugging gaps in both attack and defence, with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini insisting there is “still a lot of work to do.”

Since his arrival at Anfield in 2020, Tsimikas has developed a reputation as a reliable back-up to Andy Robertson. Known for his energy and precise delivery from wide areas, the Greek international has been a dependable figure when called upon. However, with minutes increasingly hard to come by in a Liverpool squad stacked with defensive depth, Roma’s interest makes sense.
Di Marzio added that “there have been contacts with the Reds regarding the loan arrival of the Greek full-back: the operation is not easy, but Roma are trying.” The Italian journalist went further, stating that “at the beginning of next week we will have a clearer understanding of its feasibility.”
For Liverpool, this represents a the summer so far with the arrival of Kerkez and the stature of Robertson, Tsimikas is going to find it difficult to get any minutes.
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this story will divide opinion. On one hand, many fans admire Tsimikas’ commitment and attitude, recognising him as one of the best back-up full-backs in the Premier League. His memorable penalty against Chelsea in the 2022 FA Cup Final is still a highlight etched into club folklore.
Yet, there’s also a recognition that opportunities for him remain limited. With Robertson firmly ahead and Kerkez now seemingly first choice, a loan could provide Tsimikas the consistent minutes he deserves. Roma, a club competing in Serie A and in Europe, would be a respectable destination.
Supporters would likely wish Tsimikas well in Rome. His professionalism and quality ensure he leaves with respect.
