AC Milan Monitor Liverpool Forward as Chiesa Exit Speculation Builds

Milan open informal dialogue over Chiesa move

Liverpool’s reshaped squad continues to draw admiring and speculative glances from across Europe, with the latest report indicating that AC Milan have made ‘indirect contact’ over a move for Federico Chiesa. The Italian international, who arrived at Anfield last season for a modest fee of £12.5 million, has struggled to establish himself in Arne Slot’s plans and now appears to be the subject of growing interest.

According to Caught Offside, Milan have made discreet overtures through intermediaries, with the fee required to prise Chiesa from Liverpool seen as a potential sticking point. Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the situation, with the latter understood to be assessing Chiesa as a possible replacement following Angel Correa’s move to Tigres.

Liverpool weighing up their options

Despite Chiesa’s limited impact since joining the club, Liverpool’s reluctance to sell may hinge on broader squad dynamics. With both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez linked with summer exits, there is an argument for retaining depth across the forward line, particularly if further additions are not financially viable.

“Chiesa’s move to Liverpool has not worked out,” one source close to the situation acknowledged, “but the context around the squad means his sale is not straightforward.”

The Italian’s lack of minutes last season has been attributed to fitness issues and competition for places, but the coaching staff are said to value his technical ability and experience.

Fee and replacements complicate decision

While the Reds are open to generating funds through sales, the challenge lies in replacing squad players without overspending. Potential targets such as Rodrygo Goes and Malick Fofana have been discussed internally, but valuations north of £50 million for each would require significant outgoings.

Given Chiesa’s low cost and potential upside, the decision to offload him now, particularly in a window where the club is also navigating bids for Diaz and Nunez, presents a dilemma. Giorgio Chiellini once called Chiesa “unstoppable”, and while that version of the player has not yet appeared in red, Liverpool are cautious about giving up on him too early.

Serie A suitors line up

AC Milan’s interest, though not yet formalised, reflects the belief in Italy that Chiesa can be reinvigorated in a familiar setting. Juventus, his former club, are reportedly exploring the feasibility of a return, though there is no agreement in place.

Atletico Madrid’s interest may grow depending on developments with other wide options. Liverpool, meanwhile, are content to wait for formal offers before committing to any decision.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

For Liverpool fans, the prospect of selling Federico Chiesa after just one underwhelming season feels premature. The fee was low, the risk minimal, and the reward, potentially, still very real. If Diaz and Nunez both leave, depth in attack becomes more valuable than ever, especially with the club’s focus reportedly turning to big-money targets like Rodrygo and Fofana.

Chiesa may not have had his breakthrough, but he remains a Champions League-calibre player. The calls from Italy make sense. They see a talent who can still influence games, particularly in a league that suits his rhythm and directness. But Liverpool are not obliged to sell, and unless a significant offer lands, it would be more prudent to give Chiesa a proper campaign under Slot’s structure.

Fans expect a reshaped squad, not a dismantled one. Selling Chiesa to fund further deals only makes sense if his replacement arrives as a proven upgrade. Otherwise, he should stay and fight for his place. The raw talent is still there.
