Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s attack this summer.
Last year Richard Hughes spent £450m on new players - including British record fees on Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Huge money also went on Hugo Ekitike as the Liverpool sporting director and head coach Arne Slot overhauled the centre of the attack.
This year the focus is likely to be on the wingers - with one-v-one specialists on the agenda. Mohamed Salah will be leaving the club after reaching an agreement to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early.
And Federico Chiesa is sure to join the Egyptian King on the exit ramp amid interest from Serie A.
Among the names linked with a potential arrival at the outgoing Premier League champions are Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola and Jarrod Bowen.
And one more name long associated with an Anfield transfer is Mateus Mane. The Portugal-born winger has enjoyed an outstanding breakout Premier League season at Wolves.
Although it’s been a season to forget for the Old Gold - destined to play next season in the Championship - 18-year-old Mane has really burst onto the scene.
Liverpool are among the teams most closely linked with a move for Mane - who has dazzled Reds’ recruiters with his performances in the top flight.
With Wolves heading down to the second tier it’s inevitable that sales will need to be made. However Mane has now revealed that he intends to be at Molineux next term as Rob Edwards plots a comeback to the top flight.
The Express & Star quizzed the winger over whether he thought he’d be at Wolves next season.
“Definitely,” he said. “We’ll see what happens this summer. I will just try my best to get Wolves back up in the Premier League where it belongs.” “For me, I feel like it’s been a fantastic season.
“It’s obviously not been the year we wanted it to be as a team, being relegated, but for my own season, I feel like I’ve been great.
“It’s my first breakout season and I’ve enjoyed every moment. But I know I’ve got to keep going now and see what happens in the future.
“It’s good to hear people saying nice things and I like to hear it, but I’ve got to keep fighting, try not to listen too much and focus on my game.
“I’ve always believed in myself. I thought this season I was going to get more game time, and it’s worked out for me.
“I’ve got a few goals, got a few assists, but now it’s time to keep working, keep moving, keep fighting, and next season, we’ve got to work hard to try and get the club back to where we want it to be, in the Premier League.”
Mane has got three goals - including one last weekend versus Fulham - and two assists in his rookie Premier League season. He has also inked a new Wolves contract - pledging his future to the club until 2029.
Alas if Liverpool are going to sign the young forward - who also plays attacking midfield - they will be made to wait until his season in the Championship is at an end.
