Liverpool in advanced talks with special star to REPLACE Mo Salah

Mo Salah's reign at Anfield has been an incredible one but Liverpool are now looking to replace him.

When the Egyptian signed his two year contract extension in the summer, it was always moot whether he would fulfil those terms. Liverpool in a way were protecting their investment with their decision to extend his deal and not lose him on a free transfer.

Now things are starting to play out on the pitch as well. Salah has been dropped to the bench in Liverpool's last two games in the Premier League.

It feels like the Reds are transitioning away from their reliance on Salah and building a new team around Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

How effective Arne Slot has been at doing that is questionable. But there is no doubt that the long-term plan has to be to move away from Salah.

He is not getting any younger and Liverpool won't want to lose him on a free, especially with potential Saudi money on the line.

If Salah leaves, he is going to have to be replaced. And we are starting to see indications of the type of profile and who that player might be.

Replacing Salah is always going to come with a lot of pressure. The kind of pressure that is impossible to live up to. No one is going to come in and produce the same number of goals as Salah has done during his time at the club.

But whoever comes in could make Liverpool a more balanced side.

Right now it's becoming increasingly evident that Liverpool are lacking both speed, width and one vs one ability on the flanks.

It's something that Liverpool have lacked since Luis Diaz's departure. But even before then when Liverpool had Sadio Mane and a Salah with more speed at the top of his game.

Now according to Sky Sports Switzerland, Liverpool are in 'advanced talks' with the entourage of Yan Diomande ahead of a potential summer move.

The RB Leipzig winger, who has predominantly played on the right so far this season has eight goal contributions in less than 900 minutes for his club.

Diomande has also clocked the second fastest top-speed in the Bundesliga this season (35.8km/h) and he has the most successful attempted take-ons in the competition as well.

So on paper, you can see why Liverpool want Diomande. At 19-years-old he's exactly the type of player they are lacking right now. Diomande is capable of holding the width, injecting speed into the flanks and succeeding in his one vs ones.

On paper, he might be the perfect replacement for Salah. The fact that Liverpool are holding advanced talks is a really encouraging sign.
