It’s been a season to forget for Liverpool and Arne Slot.
The defending Premier League champions slumped from top spot to fifth - just making it into the Champions League on the final day of the season.
Expectations were sky high at the beginning of the campaign - with Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes overseeing £450m worth of transfer spending. But the Anfield side fell flat - with too many players either out of form or out injured.
The problem was particularly pronounced at right-back. Hughes sold Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in a cut-price £10m deal.
Conor Bradley was given a bumper new contract while Jeremie Frimpong was signed for £29.5m from Bayer Leverkusen.
Bradley however has missed too many matches through injury - and remains on the sidelines with a long-term knee issue.
Frimpong meanwhile looks an awkward fit at right-back - and even he has suffered from several injury problems throughout his first season in Red.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones are among the midfielders who have been required to fill in at right-back while Joe Gomez has had more football than he might have expected.
Liverpool need to clear up the right-back problem once and for all this summer - and a report in FC Inter News now claims talks are underway to sign Denzel Dumfries.
"Liverpool have contacted those who handle the interests of the Aruban native to confirm that he is still on the Reds' radar," the report reads.
The 30-year-old has got a very attractive €25m release clause in his Inter Milan contract and it looks as though Liverpool intend on triggering it.
The clause will be active for the month of July - sparking a clamour for Dumfries’ signature between Liverpool and Barcelona.
