Liverpool injury bombshell continues enormous headache

Liverpool have suffered another injury blow and it continues a worrying headache for the club. Is it one they can fix?

Liverpool didn't have a good week for injuries. Federico Chiesa missed the trip to Galatasaray with a niggle after scoring against Crystal Palace and they didn't stop there.

Both Alisson Becker and Hugo Ekitike left the pitch early in Turkey. It now appears that Alisson will be out for some time - at least until after the international break.

Ekitike should be okay to feature at the weekend against Chelsea but time will tell on that one. Things look positive, though.

But even that wasn't all. Jayden Danns, someone who has been in recent squads as a third-choice striker, injured his hamstring with the Under 21s and it seems he'll be out for a while.

This Is Anfield reports a 'lengthy layoff' for Danns, who has had awful injury issues in 2025. Initially joining Sunderland on loan back in January, he didn't play a single game because of injuries and missed a chunk of pre-season because of it.

Now he's injured again and we won't see Danns for a bit. It continues a worrying trend that refuses to go away.

Liverpool's young injury issues

Danns is far from the first Liverpool youngster on the brink of the first-team to suddenly suffer terrible injury problems. In fact, it keeps happening.

Curtis Jones, for instance, broke in a few years ago now but has consistently seen his form interrupted with spells out of the squad. Harvey Elliott broke into the setup at a similar time and suffered even worse injury issues, constantly missing time just when he found momentum.

Stefan Bajcetic was an absolute certainty a few years ago for a long-term first-team role. Then the injuries struck, costing him a year of his career and making things difficult for him since.

In fact, the midfielder is just now coming back from yet another injury and hasn’t appeared this season.

Conor Bradley is now a regular in the first-team squad but frequently misses games with injuries. Even Ben Doak, who was on the fringes of the first-team, broke down last season while on loan with Middlesbrough.

Jarell Quansah is maybe the only youth product in recent times to spend considerable time with the senior squad and not break down. You could argue that he’s also an outlier compared to the others, too, as he was something of a surprise breakthrough.

Quansah went from League One football to Premier League regular in the space of a year. There was no consistent bedding-in period with the seniors - he jumped right in after developing elsewhere.

But this is a pattern that refuses to go away. It’s one that needs to be fixed, though, if Liverpool are to get anything special out of their academy system.
