Liverpool will welcome Borussia Dortmund Legends to Anfield on Saturday, March 28, in a highly anticipated charity fixture. Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm GMT as both sides aim to raise money for the Liverpool Foundation, an initiative close to the hearts of the club and its supporters.
Dortmund arrive with momentum, having lifted a Legends Cup earlier this year. Their squad is expected to feature former Germany international Mats Hummels, who retired after competing in the Europa League during the 2024-25 season. Liverpool, meanwhile, will draw strength from a wealth of experience, with a managerial team designed to match the German outfit’s pedigree.
Liverpool’s side will benefit from an impressive backroom team including Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, and John Aldridge. While Jurgen Klopp has left the club, the legacy of his leadership remains, and his tactical input for this fixture adds extra intrigue.
On the pitch, the Reds’ Legends squad reads like a who’s who of modern and classic Liverpool heroes. Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch, and Pepe Reina headline a roster packed with familiar faces. Martin Skrtel returns following a headline-grabbing performance in a legends’ match against Chelsea, while Ryan Babel is also back after scoring a memorable winner at Stamford Bridge in October. Midfielder Thiago Alcantara, 34, will make his Anfield homecoming barely two years after announcing his retirement.
Confirmed Liverpool Legends squad: Pepe Reina, Jerzy Dudek, Sander Westerveld, Sami Hyypia, Martin Skrtel, Ragnar Klavan, Martin Kelly, Fabio Aurelio, Gregory Vignal, Steven Gerrard, Thiago, Yossi Benayoun, Vladimir Smicer, Igor Biscan, Mark Gonzalez, Jay Spearing, Louise Schillgard, Peter Crouch, Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel, Jermaine Pennant, Albert Riera, Florent Sinama Pongolle, Natasha Dowie.
Dortmund have yet to confirm their full squad for the fixture, though the side that won the Legends Cup in January included Hummels, Roman Weidenfeller, and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

While the fixture is charity-focused, competitive spirit will inevitably shine through. Liverpool Legends have home advantage at Anfield, and the presence of iconic players such as Gerrard and Crouch ensures the crowd will be in full voice. Dortmund’s team, bolstered by former internationals, promises to make this more than a friendly encounter.
Matches like this celebrate the history and legends of football, allowing fans to relive iconic moments while supporting an important cause. With star managers and players returning to the pitch, the Liverpool vs Dortmund Legends fixture is expected to be a memorable event for all involved.
Fans should expect pace, flair, and flashes of brilliance, with the bonus of seeing past heroes interact once more on the hallowed turf of Anfield.
