Manchester United are interested in signing Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton in the summer transfer window.
However, Liverpool are attempting to hijack their move for the highly-rated midfielder.
The Reds have already started negotiations with Wharton over a stunning move to Anfield this summer, according to Radio Marca.
Liverpool have had a miserable season, but they are still on course to secure Champions League qualification.
They are looking to bolster their midfield ranks and are big admirers of Wharton.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2024.
He has performed well for the Eagles and is expected to be part of England’s squad for the World Cup next month.
Wharton produced a brilliant display to help Palace beat Shakhtar Donetsk in their Europa Conference League semi-final first leg on Thursday.
He has bagged seven assists in 46 appearances across all competitions this campaign season.
United have Wharton on their shortlist, but face stiff competition from Liverpool.
The Red Devils are looking to sign two midfielders this summer. They have been linked with Elliot Anderson, but they will not pay an exorbitant fee for him.
Sandro Tonali and Aurelien Tchouameni are other options, although securing a deal for either player would not be easy.
