Even if the line is that Liverpool have “no plans to sell Cody Gakpo”, fans have seen enough transfer windows to know that situations can shift quickly when huge bids appear.

There is also the concern around form and responsibility. Gakpo had a dip, with “only nine goals”, and if Liverpool are heading into a new season with changing dynamics in the frontline, then keeping experienced attackers becomes even more important. He may not have hit top gear last season, but proven quality matters when a squad is evolving.

The Barcola angle will excite supporters, naturally. A player with that profile would raise the ceiling of the attack. But until deals are done, fans tend to focus on what could be lost rather than what might arrive. That is why this report will land as a warning as much as a reassurance.
