Liverpool have reportedly decided keep Arne Slot on as head coach next season despite enduring a disappointing Premier League campaign.

The Dutchman has come under enormous pressure this year after the Reds failed to defend their Premier League crown or challenge for major trophies.

The Merseyside outfit currently sit fifth in the table and have exited every knockout competition in dispiriting fashion, leaving them empty-handed despite a record summer of spending.

It has been widely expected that Slot would be sacked at the end of the season, with Xabi Alonso considered the ideal replacement. The former Liverpool midfielder is available after being sacked by Real Madrid in January.

Liverpool ‘expected’ to continue with Arne Slot as head coach

However, Sky Sports now claim that Slot is “expected to continue” in his role as the team close in on qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool beat local rivals Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday while sixth-placed Chelsea lost to Manchester United, creating a seven-point buffer between the two clubs in the standings.

With their form picking up in the last couple of weeks, the doubts surrounding Slot’s future are said to be “subsiding rapidly”.

Jamie Carragher revealed on Monday Night Football that the 47-year-old is likely to hold onto his job if, as expected, Liverpool qualify for the Champions League.

“The noises I am hearing is Slot will be the Liverpool manager next season if they can secure Champions League qualification, which they look like doing right now,” the pundit said on the programme.

This summer will be another busy one for Liverpool as they look to replace the departing Mo Salah and Andy Robertson while also improve key areas of the squad.
