Liverpool appear to have chosen their Alexis Mac Allister replacement. He's now free to depart.

Liverpool gave Ryan Gravenberch a massive new contract this season. Talks with Dominik Szoboszlai are reportedly underway, too, as the club looks to consolidate its star midfielders.

However, there are no such talks for Alexis Mac Allister. That's been confirmed by the player's father and it's a sign that Liverpool either aren't as all-in on the Argentine as they are others, or that Mac Allister isn't as willing to re-sign as some.

No matter which it is, a sale in the summer is a very real possibility. Real Madrid have consistently been linked with an interest and it feels as though the club may decide to cash-in on Mac Allister - especially if his World Cup goes well.

Adding fuel to the fire is an interest in Victor Froholdt. The FC Porto midfielder has enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign in Portugal and now several Premier League clubs are interested.

That includes Liverpool, who are aware of his £73m release clause. That's according to Correio da Manhã in a report on the growing interest in Froholdt.

He'd be a direct replacement for Mac Allister as a do-it-all midfielder. Just one who's also far younger and on significantly lower wages.

Alexis Mac Allister: Situation Summary

Liverpool Performance and Stats

As of 10 May 2026, Alexis Mac Allister remains a central fixture in Liverpool’s midfield, having recorded 34 Premier League appearances this season. The 27-year-old has registered two goals and four assists, maintaining a 6.93 FotMob rating across 2,482 minutes. His campaign was briefly interrupted by a knee injury sustained against Wolves in March, but he has since returned to full fitness. Most recently, he played 90 minutes in a 1–0 win over Chelsea on 9 May, following full matches against Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

Transfer Speculation

Mac Allister’s future is currently a subject of debate as he enters the final two years of his contract. While Real Madrid have been consistently linked with the Argentine, his father confirmed on 8 May that there have been no formal renewal talks or discussions regarding a move away. Liverpool have reportedly prioritised extensions for Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.
