According to reports, Real Madrid have ‘offered’ Liverpool a ‘surprising swap deal’ as they look to sign Florian Wirtz from the Premier League giants.
Liverpool broke the British transfer record to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer for around £116m before paying £125m to land Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
Wirtz joined Liverpool in the early stages of this summer’s transfer window, with this deal a major coup for the Reds as they fended off competition from Bayern Munich and Manchester City to secure his services.
However, Wirtz has struggled for Liverpool in the first few months of this campaign and he’s been heavily criticised for his slow start at Anfield.
Wirtz is gradually improving, but he is still without a goal in the Premier League and has loads to do if he’s to eventually live up to his massive price tag.
Real Madrid were also mooted as a potential destination for Wirtz following the appointment of Xabi Alonso, and they remain a possibility for the Germany international in the coming years.
Now, a new report from an outlet in Spain claims Real Madrid are already trying to sign Wirtz have have ‘offered’ Liverpool a ‘surprising swap deal’ including Turkey international Arda Guler.
Guler has been mooted as a potential future star, but he has struggled to earn regular game time at Real Madrid and has been loosely linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.
The report indicates that Real Madrid’s supposed offer is for a straight swap deal without a fee, with this ‘unlikely’ to be accepted by Liverpool after paying £116m for Wirtz.

It is noted that Alonso would be ‘very happy’ to reunite with Wirtz, but Liverpool are expected to be less in favour of the deal.
The report adds: ‘Swapping Güler for Wirtz would be a logical move for both clubs, but it goes without saying that reaching an agreement is highly unlikely. After all, it’s important to remember that Liverpool paid over €130 million for him.
‘So they are not willing to lose this money, and would demand significant financial compensation from Madrid to finalise this swap.’
So in short, this deal won’t be happening.
Instead, expect Wirtz to continue to improve at Liverpool as he is simply too talented to not eventually become a huge success for the Premier League giants.
