Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande is gathering pace, with developments in Germany suggesting RB Leipzig are already planning for a future without their emerging star.
There is growing expectation that Liverpool will move decisively for Diomande as they prepare for a significant attacking transition. Mohamed Salah is set to leave Anfield at the end of the current campaign, concluding a nine year spell that has defined an era of sustained success.
Recruitment plans have been underway for some time and Diomande has quickly become a leading candidate. The 19-year-old has adapted seamlessly to Bundesliga football, delivering 12 goals and eight assists across 31 appearances in his first full season.
Leipzig’s recruitment model has once again proven effective. Signed for €20 million from Leganes last summer, Diomande’s market value has risen sharply. The German club are understood to value him at more than €100 million, with no release clause included in his contract.
Interest is not limited to Liverpool. Several elite clubs across Europe are tracking the situation closely, including PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona. The player has addressed the speculation directly, stating: “Hearing these rumours about big clubs like PSG, Chelsea, Liverpool, and others interested in me only motivates me even more.”

While no formal decision has been made regarding Diomande’s future, Leipzig’s internal planning indicates they are preparing for multiple scenarios. Any potential transfer is likely to be influenced by the upcoming World Cup, which could further elevate the player’s profile and valuation.
Behind the scenes, Leipzig are continuing their established approach of identifying emerging talent early. The club’s scouting network is actively assessing attacking options who fit a similar tactical profile.
One name under consideration is Zadok Yohanna, currently developing at AIK. According to Sky Sports journalist Philipp Hinze: “RB Leipzig shows interest in Zadok Yohanna. 18-year-old Nigerian, right winger, left-footed from AIK . Being monitored. Exciting profile. One of several names on the RB list for the attack. Interest also from BVB & Leverkusen among others.”
The similarities between Yohanna and Diomande are clear. Both operate primarily from the right flank, favouring movement inside onto their stronger left foot. This tactical alignment would allow Leipzig to maintain continuity within their attacking structure.
Yohanna’s progression has been rapid. After beginning his career at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria, he secured a move to AIK in 2025 and has made an immediate impact. He has registered four goals and three assists in seven appearances across all competitions.
Performance data further underlines his potential, with an average FotMob rating of 7.92 in the 2026 Allsvenskan season. For a player who only turned 18 last year, these metrics have drawn attention from multiple clubs across Europe.
Leipzig’s interest reflects a broader strategy, identifying high ceiling players before their value escalates. Should Diomande depart, Yohanna represents a cost effective and stylistically compatible replacement.
For Liverpool, the situation remains under close review. With Arne Slot overseeing squad evolution following a Premier League winning campaign in 2024 to 2025, attacking reinforcements are a priority. Diomande’s profile aligns with the club’s long term vision, but negotiations will depend on Leipzig’s position and wider market dynamics.
