The incredible investment into the player market this summer with Richard Hughes breaking the club's record transfer twice in one window just goes to show how committed everyone is to ensure Liverpool remain competitive.

This was a window for the ages. Something we are unlikely to see again anytime soon. Especially, because Hughes' vision was on building long-term success.

The team he has assembled are not just for the here and now, but they are for the next five to ten years. It's going to be exciting to see just how far they can go.

Obviously for a sporting director, Hughes' work is never really finished. His job now will concentrate on Marc Guehi, getting that over the line when the window opens in January or on a free transfer next summer.

Delving into the club's long-term vision, Hughes will also have to focus on how Liverpool go about replacing Mohamed Salah. He's now on a two-year contract.

Whether Salah will fulfil his current terms is moot. He'll be 34-years-old by the end of next summer. Players can go on and play until they are into their forties - Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have proven that.

But at the highest level? It remains to be seen. If anyone can, it's Salah. He is superhuman.

At the same time, it would not be a surprise to see Liverpool cash in on him either. He's an asset, and he will be even with just a year left on his contract next summer.

Saudi Arabia have long wanted to attract Salah to their region. Perhaps the stars might just align for it to happen in a year's time.

Replacing Salah won't be easy. But the club will do it on the aggregate. This is why they've signed Alexander Isak. He's not going to be someone who will replace Salah's position in the team, but he will replace his output.

It's why signing a right-winger isn't necessarily going to be a like-for-like move. There's no one like Salah on the market.

What Liverpool will have to do is find a player on the right-wing who fits into Arne Slot's system.

Now that could be Michael Olise or Yankuba Minteh. Or it could have been another player, who seemed to be keen on a move to Anfield but whose moved to the Reds was rebuffed.

Liverpool reject Rodrygo's approach

According to The Daily Mail's Lewis Steele speaking to Anfield Index, Rodrygo's camp made an approach to Liverpool for a potential stunning move from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian star's camp were trying to orchestra a move for him to Anfield but ultimately Liverpool rejected those advances.

"Rodrygo's camp were definitely trying to get him to Liverpool, but Liverpool were having one of it," according to Steele.

It's interesting that Liverpool made the decision not to pursue Rodrygo. He could have been a perfect replacement for Salah.

Rodrygo is a world-class talent who has won multiple Champions League titles and has been playing in one of the best teams in world football.

Ultimately, though Liverpool will have felt they had better options. Whether they will think the same in a year's time, remains to be seen. Rodrygo might be knocking on their door again if his situation doesn't change at Real Madrid.
