Liverpool are monitoring developments around Lamine Camara after Newcastle United accelerated talks for the AS Monaco midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Foot Mercato.
The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s standout young midfielders, with Premier League interest growing as Monaco face uncertainty over European qualification. Newcastle United are understood to have held recent discussions with Camara’s representatives, a move that has alerted Liverpool as they assess their own midfield plans.
Camara is under contract with Monaco until June 2029 and is valued at around €50million. The French club signed him from FC Metz for approximately €15million in 2024, meaning any summer sale would deliver a sizeable profit.
Liverpool are expected to be active in the market after a difficult campaign under Arne Slot, despite the Dutchman having delivered the Premier League title in his first season at Anfield in 2024/25.
Slot has one year remaining on his contract and, barring a major boardroom shift, is expected to remain in charge for the 2026/27 season. Champions League qualification remains an important factor in shaping both the club’s plans and the wider transfer budget.
Speaking on Thursday, Slot addressed his future directly.
“I don’t think I am deciding that alone by myself, but I have every reason to believe I am the Liverpool manager next season,” he said. “First of all, I am contracted to this club and second of all, from all the talks we are having. That is my take on it.”
Camara’s appeal is clear. He has been a regular starter for Monaco, combining energy, technical quality and tactical discipline in midfield. His performances have placed him high across several key statistical metrics in Ligue 1, strengthening the view that he is ready for a major move.

Liverpool’s interest reflects a desire to add greater balance and depth after last summer’s significant £448million spend still left areas of the squad requiring attention. Camara would fit the profile of a young, high-ceiling midfielder capable of developing further while contributing immediately.
Newcastle United’s early movement has raised the stakes. Liverpool are said to have been informed of meetings between Camara’s camp and Newcastle, prompting the Reds to sharpen their focus.
For Monaco, the situation is commercially attractive. For Camara, the Premier League appears an increasingly realistic next step. For Liverpool and Newcastle United, the question now is who moves with greater conviction.
With the summer window approaching, Lamine Camara is becoming one of the names to watch closely.
