Liverpool are reportedly targeting a move for RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande as a possible replacement for the outgoing Mo Salah.

The Egyptian winger will play his final game for the Reds this Sunday when they host Brentford at Anfield after he announced his departure in March.

The 33-year-old still has one year remaining on his contract, but has reached an agreement with the club to let him leave on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.

That leaves Liverpool with the monumental task of replacing a Premier League legend, and it looks like they are going back to the Bundesliga to do so.

Liverpool target €100m-rated wonderkid Yan Diomande

According to The Athletic, Diomande has “emerged as a leading target” for Liverpool after keeping a close eye on the winger this season.

Leipzig, though, are looking for around €100 million (£87.2m) for the Ivorian attacker and want to hold onto him for another year after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool will, also face “stiff competition” for the youngster, who is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain, among other clubs.

But the Merseyside outfit are said to be in a “strong position” with the player and if they can convince him that they are the right club for him, then club-to-clubs can be “expected” to follow.

If Liverpool were to land a deal for Diomande, he would the fourth big money signing from Germany’s top flight since the beginning of last summer. They spent a combined £208m on Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong in summer 2025.

Who is Liverpool transfer target Yan Diomande?

Diomande is a 19-year-old winger who predominantly plays on the right, but can also play on the left. He was born in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast, but moved to the United States at a young age.

The teenager came through the DME Academy and had a trial with Rangers in 2023, but did not sign for the Scottish club. He went on to join Spanish side Leganes in 2024 instead, scoring twice in 10 La Liga appearances before moving to Leipzig the following year.

Diomande signed a five-year contract with the east German club in a €20m transfer last summer. He’s scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions this term, including a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt in December. That made him the second-youngest player in Bundesliga history to score three goals in one game.

He will be one of the players to watch out for at the FIFA World Cup after getting the call-up for the Ivory Coast national team. He has scored three goal in nine appearances for Les Elephants.

What has Yan Diomande said about his future?

Speaking to reporters earlier this month, Diomande said: “Imagine people say you go to Chelsea or Real Madrid to do this job… you’re going to be happy and motivated to do more.

“I don’t think about it too much because my focus is on the pitch, my job is playing football, that takes care of everything but it gives me a lot of motivation to see people talking about me.”
