Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield has never been less certain, and the search for his successor is underway.

With the Egyptian King now at AFCON and not due to return until the turn of the new year, and therefore after the opening of the transfer window, it is entirely possible Salah has played his final game for Liverpool.

A public falling out with the club’s hierarchy sparked talks of a January sale and, although the situation seems to have calmed down a bit, thoughts are now turning to who could replace the 33-year-old.

Even if Salah does play the second half on the season with Liverpool, a contract extension beyond 2027 feels very unlikely so replacing the legendary forward will be a priority at Anfield soon regardless.

There has been plenty of speculation about who could eventually replace Salah, not just this season but over the past few years.

A number of names have been earmarked as potential options, with Antoine Semenyo seeming the most likely option in January, but one player has been constantly linked with an eventual move to Liverpool for years, Michael Olise.

The Frenchman moved from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich in 2024 and speculation over a future move to Merseyside has persisted ever since.

Now however, with Salah’s future less certain than ever, Liverpool have been told by Christian Falk that the 24-year-old is not for sale and the chances of Bayern letting him go anytime soon are incredibly slim.

Do Liverpool have a chance with Olise?

Olise, who already has 23 goal involvements in 24 appearances this season, has a long-term deal at Bayern and the German giants are planning to sign the Frenchman to a new deal.

The Bundesliga champions will reportedly offer Olise more money and hope to extend his contract by a year in order to snuff out any talk of the forward leaving Bavaria.

Previous reports have suggested it would take a fee of around €150 million (~£131m) to convince Bayern to sell.

That fee would absolutely shatter Bayern’s current record departure, Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United for €45 million, so it would be hard for the club to turn down such an offer.

Liverpool are unlikely to splash that much cash after breaking their club transfer record twice last summer, and Bayern’s reluctance to sell leaves little room for negotiation.
