Liverpool v Tottenham: Back under-fire Spurs to misbehave

While there is widespread confidence among Liverpool fans and pundits that the Reds will turn around their Champions League tie against Galatasaray, Tuesday's 1-0 first-leg reverse in Istanbul bore some familiar hallmarks of this season's displays. Arne Slot's side missed some golden opportunities early on, gave away a cheap goal from a set play, and then made what could have been some costly defensive errors.
An exit at this stage of the Champions League would be catastrophic for Slot, but the Dutchman knows he also has to secure UCL football for next term. Liverpool go into the weekend outside the Champions League spots on goal difference, and their last Premier League outing yielded a shock defeat at rock-bottom Wolves. Liverpool's pace of play was painfully slow that night, and they gave away yet more preventable goals.
That said, Liverpool have rediscovered the Anfield factor of late, and have won seven of their last 10 competitive home matches. They have scored 28 goals in the process.
Alisson's return from injury is a doubt, although Giorgi Mamardashvili deputised superbly in Istanbul. Federico Chiesa could be an option after illness, while Rio Ngumoha is pushing hard for a start after an excellent FA Cup display at Wolves. Jeremie Frimpong could replace Joe Gomez at right-back.
Four games. Four defeats. Igor Tudor's credibility has taken a serious hit during his brief and disastrous spell as Tottenham's caretaker manager, and Tuesday's 5-2 loss at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League was the nadir.
Having been at fault for two of the three goals he conceded in the opening quarter of an hour, surprise goalkeeping choice Antonin Kinsky was hooked. It was a brutal decision by Tudor, one that has been widely criticised, and it remains to be seen how it will affect a young but talented goalkeeper who will forever be associated with the complete debacle that unfolded at the Metropolitano.
Tudor says it's time to be positive, to see the glass as half-full. He says his players can either cry and play the victim, or they can come out fighting. The bare truth is that an injury-hit squad has a total lack of confidence, and has gone 11 league games without a victory. With trips to Liverpool, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Chelsea still to come, fears are growing that Tottenham could suffer one of the most startling relegations in Premier League history.
The list of absentees makes for hideous reading. Skipper Cristian Romero and midfielder Joao Palhinha crashed into each other in Madrid, and are both out with concussion. Micky Van de Ven is suspended, Conor Gallagher is struggling with a virus, and Yves Bissouma is injured. Destiny Udogie is close to returning from injury, but is unlikely to be ready in time for this game.
As bad as Tottenham are right now, I'm struggling with Liverpool's price of 1.32 in the Match Odds market, given the Reds' current instability and inconsistency.
I'll therefore look at the props markets, and I'll start with the OddsBoost on offer for Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai to each have a shot on target, because the price has been jacked up to 5/4 from evens.
Szoboszlai will be playing in midfield rather than at right-back, and he has had a shot on target in 10 of his last 13 Liverpool appearances. As for Gakpo, the Dutch winger hasn't been at his best this season, but he absolutely loves a shot. He has hit the target in six of his last 13 Premier League starts, and has rained in 32 shots across those matches.
This week you can take advantage of the Bet £10 Get £10 offer, and I'm going to include a Richarlison yellow card in a Bet Builder.
The Brazilian striker loves playing the pantomime villain against Liverpool, leaning into his status as a former Everton player. If you look at his time at Everton and Spurs, Richarlison has been booked in four of 13 Premier League meetings with Liverpool.
If we combine a Richarlison booking with Spurs to receive Over 2.5 Cards, we get a Bet Builder that pays at 5/1. Tottenham had two men sent off in the reverse fixture and also picked up five bookings. If Liverpool get on top of them here, Spurs could completely lose their cool, and going into this weekend Tottenham had picked up a league-high 72 yellow cards and four dismissals.
