Giants face off in huge clash at Anfield
Liverpool take on Manchester City this weekend as two Premier League titans go head to head at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s Reds are on the hunt for a top-four finish after a below-par title defence, although two big wins over Qarabag and Newcastle United last week has handed them back that winning feeling.
The Merseyside outfit scored 10 goals across those two games, beating the Azerbaijani side 6-0 in the Champions League and coming from a goal down to defeat Newcastle 4-1 at the weekend.
The win over Qarabag saw Slot’s side qualify automatically for the knockout stages of the Champions League, but last-minute victories for Manchester United and Chelsea has seen the champions fall back to sixth in the table.
As for City, they have lost ground on Arsenal in the title race.
Pep Guardiola’s men are six points off the league leaders, and they were held to a 2-2 draw by Tottenham last time out, having led 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
They moved safely into the Carabao Cup final on Wednesday with comfortable second-leg victory over Newcastle in the semi-final at the Etihad Stadium, where Guardiola was afforded the luxury of resting some of his key players.
Liverpool vs Man City is scheduled for a 4.30pm GMT kick-off on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
The match will take place at Anfield.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports Main Event, with coverage starting at 4pm GMT ahead of the 4.30pm kick off.

Liverpool are in the midst of an injury crisis at present, particularly in defence.
Slot was thankful to welcome back Ibrahima Konate from compassionate leave against Newcastle, with the centre-back scoring on his return after missing the previous three matches.
The Frenchman had been grieving his late father, and his absence left Slot with just one fit senior centre-half.
That was Virgil van Dijk, while Joe Gomez suffered an injury against Bournemouth.
Slot said in his pre-match press conference that he hoped the England defender could train ahead of City’s visit, although he clarified that Gomez would not be able to start if was passed fit.
Giovanni Leoni, the summer signing, is out for the season with an ACL problem.
Alexander Isak remains out with a broken leg that he sustained against Tottenham before Christmas.
There is also a decision to be made by the Dutchman as to who plays at right-back, with both of his natural options in that position, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong, both sidelined long term.
As for City, Ruben Dias returned to the matchday squad after an injury lay-off that stretched back to New Year’s Day.
The Portuguese was withdrawn in the draw with Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium with a hamstring injury.
Although he was on the bench against Newcastle, he did not come on as a substitute.
However, his partner, Josko Gvardiol, will be out for months after he broke his leg against Chelsea.
He joins Mateo Kovacic as a long-term absentee, while wingers Savinho and Jeremy Doku are not in contention to play here.
Guardiola confirmed that Savinho was still “stuck” with a hamstring issue but would continue to be out for “weeks”, while Doku did not train ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
City suffered a further blow when Bernardo Silva missed the game in midweek with a hamstring injury, although Guardiola said that the Portuguese had told him he “felt good” and “wanted to try it out”.
This is a big game for both sides, but both have different aspirations.
For Liverpool, their title dreams are over, and it is all about consolidating a place in the Champions League next term.
For City, their trophy hopes are in the balance from last week after their latest stumble opened the door for Arsenal to extend the gap once more.
Both teams are sorely lacking in defence, which could make for an entertaining game filled with goals.
