When Arne Slot was in charge, the Dutchman didn't trust him and, even when he did play him, he used him out of position at right-back.
This lack of playing time has led to the Englishman questioning his future with Liverpool's midfield their most stacked area.
However, with rumours flying around about what could potentially happen to Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, it feels like it's still too soon to pull the trigger on his sale.
Despite this, the Reds have been drawing up a shortlist of potential midfielders to bring in and have been told that €50 million (£43 million) is what they'd need to fork out to sign one of them.
Liverpool's midfield needs a major revamp.
Mac Allister has forgotten how to run and, even though Ryan Gravenberch has just signed a bumper new deal, his performances have been rather disappointing.
His inability to tackle his opponents or even complete a decent chunk of passes each game has resulted in fans being resentful of the midfielder.
And, since Jones could also be leaving, the Reds won't have that many options to choose from which is why they need to sign one or two central midfielders this summer.
A fresh report from Tutto Juve has shared the Reds' plans to replace Jones and how much it would cost them to sign Khephren Thuram this summer.
"There's a lot of activity surrounding Khéphren Thuram," they wrote.
"The Juventus midfielder could be one of the sacrifices this transfer window, even though he currently wants to stay at Juventus.
"Not only have Galatasaray recently inquired about him, but the midfielder—according to Tuttojuve.com—is an option for Liverpool (who are selling Curtis Jones) and Manchester United.
"The Red Devils, who have already completed the Ederson deal with Atalanta, are keen to sign another player in that position and are monitoring Thuram along with Elliot Anderson (the first choice) and Mateus Fernandes.
"There's no set price for Thuram, but initial discussions could start around €45-50 million."
Thuram is a 25-year-old midfielder who has emerged as one of Juventus' most important players over the last season or so.
He's played 45 games for the Old Lady across all competitions this term and has even contributed to nine goals during that time.
The Frenchman has been used as a number six and a number eight by Luciano Spalletti with his name being one of the first on his team sheet.
However, since they're wanting to give their team a bit of a revamp, they could use the money raised from Thuram's sale to fund their transfer window.
Statistically, the 25-year-old is fairly impressive and, as per Fotmob, he's managed to maintain a pass accuracy of 86.8 per cent per 90 minutes played.
He's also only been dribbled past 0.51 times per 90 minutes and has won 53.9 per cent of his ground duels.
These statistics coupled with his keen eye for goal make him a perfect replacement for Jones and, for a fee worth just £43 million, it feels like an absolute steal.
