Liverpool worst fears CONFIRMED as Alisson set to miss season-defining run of games | OneFootball

Liverpool have been spectacular so far this season, but their most recent Premier League win was marred by injury problems.

The Reds continued their stay at the top of the league table with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, but the win was somewhat overshadowed by injuries to Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister.

Arne Slot’s side managed to secure the three points and a clean sheet despite having to rely on third-choice goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros for the final part of the match.

Although the Reds’ second-choice ‘keeper Caoimhin Kelleher missed the Palace game through illness, it is expected that he will be the man to step up in Alisson’s absence.

Alisson injury update

It has now been revealed that Alisson’s injury will see the Brazilian shot-stopper sidelined for around six weeks and at least until the next international break in mid-November.

This means that Liverpool will be without their first-choice goalkeeper for their next league game against Chelsea at Anfield, a visit to RB Leipzig, a visit to Arsenal, two games in four days against Brighton, and matches against Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa.

This represents an incredibly tough run for the Reds and will be a real test of Slot’s abilities as head coach.

This is the second time that Alisson has been injured this season and the ‘keeper also missed a number of games through injury last season.

What do Alisson’s injury problems mean for Liverpool?

Although having any first-team player out injured is not ideal, Liverpool will find some comfort in the fact that they have Kelleher ready as back-up to Alisson, especially with how close the Irishman came to a move away from Merseyside this summer.

Jurgen Klopp once referred to Kelleher as “the best number two [goalkeeper] in the world” and now the 25-year-old will have another chance to prove it.

Although the nickname isn’t one Kelleher is particularly fond of, he must seize the opportunity now presented to him.

The Reds’ run of games leading into the November international break could be season-defining and, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive in 2025, could also be career-defining for Kelleher.

Liverpool supporters will be hopeful that the Irishman can once again step up and perform well in the absence of Alisson and they will also be hoping this is the last of the Brazilian’s injuries and not a sign of what’s to come over the next few seasons.
