Reds boss Arne Slot names strong side despite hectic fixture list

Liverpool have brought Darwin Nunez into the side for their Premier League clash with Leicester on Boxing Day.

The striker came off the bench last time out against Tottenham but is in from the off at Anfield tonight, with Luis Diaz having to settle for a place among the substitutes.

The Reds are not believed to have suffered any fresh injury concerns in the nine-goal thriller at Spurs, so it is largely a similar team to take on a struggling Leicester side under Ruud van Nistelrooy who currently sit in 17th position having won just three of 17 games in the top-flight so far this term, being thumped by Newcastle and then turned over at home by relegation rivals Wolves to truly end the new manager’s brief honeymoon period.

For Slot, this looks like Liverpool’s most straightforward match of a typically busy festive fixture list, which also includes a trip to West Ham and home clash with Manchester United in the New Year ahead of a Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg tie against Tottenham.

However, the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah all start.

Curtis Jones comes into the midfield, but there is otherwise little in the way of rotation.

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Gakpo
