As reported by VI, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been talking about the state of the pitches ahead of the World Cup. The captain of the Dutch national team believes that the lack of bounce on the pitches could have a real impact on the tournament. Van Dijk said ‘We saw that at the Club World Cup last year in America. The ball doesn’t bounce very well. That will take some getting used to’.
Despite the concerns around the pitch and the humidity that all the players will be having to deal with at the tournament, the Liverpool star is confident in the Dutch squad ahead of the tournament. Van Dijk believes that the side possess plenty of tactical versatility and can line up in different ways depending on the opposition.
The Netherlands open their tournament against group rivals Japan before facing Sweden and Tunisia. Expectations are that the Dutch team has enough quality to have a decent run at the tournament and pressure will be on Ronald Koeman after some of the decisions he made regarding the World Cup squad.
