Luis De la Fuente condemned Argentina’s conduct after Spain’s 1-0 extra-time World Cup final win on Sunday.

According to L'Équipe, the 65-year-old said he had been unaware of the flashpoints amid the celebrations, but after viewing the footage he deemed the outbursts intolerable and unacceptable.

He said players of that stature, under Lionel Scaloni, should not react like that, and he believed the Argentina coach, whom he called a great coach, would have viewed those scenes as badly as Spain did. He praised his squad for keeping their poise under provocation.

His comments centred on a midfield flare-up involving Nahuel Molina and Leandro Paredes with Rodri, Gavi and Eric Garcia, with Paredes seen grabbing Garcia by the neck at the height of the altercation.

A separate incident featured Dani Olmo and Roberto Ayala, who has since issued a public apology.
