Real Madrid’s search for a central defender last season had them scouting across Europe, with several high-profile names linked to the club.

One of those names was Paris Saint-Germain’s Willian Pacho, who, at one point, appeared to be a serious option for Los Blancos.

Back in November 2024, Madrid were dealing with a defensive injury crisis. The idea of bringing in reinforcements during the January window was heavily discussed within the club.

Among the many defenders scouted, Pacho’s name stood out, and his performances had reportedly caught the attention of Real Madrid’s scouting department.

PSG’s strong position blocked any move

Pacho, however, was never an easy target. The Ecuadorian defender has a long-term contract at PSG, running until 2029.

That gave the French giants full control over the situation, and they had no intention of entertaining any bids, especially from a European rival like Real Madrid.

Talks never advanced, and eventually, Madrid chose to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth instead, a move that, in hindsight, made more sense for the club’s financial and sporting project.

Now, months after those rumours cooled down, PSG manager Luis Enrique was asked about the situation following his team’s emphatic 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

His reaction said it all. Smiling, he told the media: “It’s normal that they want all our players, but it’s difficult to get players out of Paris Saint-Germain,” he said as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

A short but clear message that PSG are happy with their squad, and prying their top talents away won’t be easy, even for a club like Real Madrid.

For now, it seems the chapter on Pacho and Madrid has closed. Even for Real Madrid, they semm pretty much covered in the centre-back role now that Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao are also returning to full fitness.
