Julian Alvarez has been named as the potential secret transfer target that Real Madrid are set to launch a move for.
Florentino Perez has stoked speculation by revealing Real Madrid are ready to launch a club record move for a 'Galactico' signing this week.
Ahead of his re-election as club president on Sunday, Perez told the media that the Spanish side would submit an offer in excess of €150m (£129m) for an unnamed player.
He promised the transfer target would be a 'Galactico' signing and confirmed that the player was not Bayern Munich pair Harry Kane or Michael Olise, nor played in thePremier League.
“I’m going to make an offer to a Champions League club very soon, on Tuesday. It will be the biggest fee Real Madrid has ever paid for a player in its history, at least €150 million ($173 million)," Perez said.
"It’s not Olise. He’s a great player, but it’s not him. It’s not Doku, it’s not Haaland, it’s not Kane. But he plays further forward. He’s not in the Premier League. He’s a total Galáctico.”
Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger has suggested Perez could be planning a raid on rivals Atletico Madrid.
He confirmed that Real Madrid have made initial enquiries for Alvarez, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Manchester City striker has scored 49 goals in 106 games for the Rojiblancos, though Atleti would be open to a sale if an offer of €150m arrives.
Spanish journalist José Luis Sánchez, of El Chiringuito, has also hinted that the deal could involve a fierce rival.
"I'm telling you: the €150M player is a bomb, a bomb, a bomb. It's so unexpected. When they told me his name, I was frozen in shock."
