Maguire ‘shocked and gutted’ to be left out of England squad | OneFootball

Harry Maguire has been left out of the England World Cup squad, according to reports this afternoon.

The Manchester United defender has been a mainstay in the England team for the past decade but will not be part of Thomas Tuchel’s team that travels to the United States early next month.

Maguire, 33, is understood to be shocked and saddened by Tuchel’s decision to overlook him, with the former Chelsea boss set to name his 26-man squad for the tournament on Friday morning.

Reacting to the surprising news, Maguire wrote in a statement on X: “I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had.

“I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I wish the players all the best.”

Despite making 24 appearances for United this season, the former Red Devils captain will be absent in North America.

Maguire also missed out on Euro 2024, England’s last major tournament, through injury.
