The Germany international’s current terms are due to expire in the summer of 2027.
It seems that Dortmund are set to become the latest in a long line of victims in the Bundesliga when it comes to the Premier League’s heavy gaze.
In a joint report with BILD’s Christian Falk on X (formerly Twitter), Brus claimed that the German giants were of the mind that Schlotterbeck’s decision-making had been compromised by Premier League interest.

With BVB looking set to miss out on the Bundesliga title again this term – having failed to lift the title since the 2011/12 season – however, one can understand why the 26-year-old’s mind may be elsewhere.
There’s no question that the Dortmund star stands out as one of the leading centre-backs in the Bundesliga, if not also within European football.
But from a Liverpool perspective (and certainly within the context of the Premier League’s physicality shift), some concern is merited as far as Nico Schlotterbeck’s aerial prowess is concerned.
Certainly, if we’re going to be critical of what Castello Lukeba offers in this department, it’s only fair we view the German under the same lens.
* Nico Schlotterbeck’s aerial stats (Bundesliga) compared with Virgil van Dijk & Ibrahima Konate’s (Premier League) per 90 in the 2025/26 season (Fotmob)
An aerial duel rate of 63.9% is far from terrible – but it’s still a notable drop-off to aerial monster Virgil van Dijk (34), and even to Ibrahima Konate.
It’s not drastic enough to push Schlotterbeck off the shortlist, but we’d hope it’s the kind of thing that’s on the recruitment team’s radar.
