It was an enthralling weekend of action in the WSL, with Arsenal upsetting Chelsea while Manchester City beat the London City Lionesses meaning they are now nine points clear at the top of the table.
The London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal was highly anticipated, with the Blues going into the clash as firm favourites. Arsenal had only beaten them once since 2023 going into the game.
Therefore it was quite a surprise when second-half goals from Beth Mead and Mariona Caldentey threw serious doubt on Chelsea’s title challenge.
Blues boss Sonia Bompastor declared after the game that the title challenge was probably over, and would not have felt any more optimistic after City’s game.
City played after Chelsea, aware of the result and knowing a win over the London City Lionesses would take them nine points ahead of Bompastor’s side.
It was a tense game, held at 1-1 until the 86th minute when the inevitable Bunny Shaw bagged the winner.
Such a late goal to extend their lead and not crumbling under pressure could be a potential sign of champions, and Andree Jeglertz will be kicking himself if City do not capitalise from here and go on to win the WSL.

It was also a huge weekend for Liverpool, who finally, after 13 league games, managed their first win. They overcame Tottenham 2-0 courtesy of two extremely late goals.
Mia Enderby scored both, the first coming in the 94th minute and the second a minute later in the 95th.
Gareth Taylor’s side were expectedly jubilant at the final whistle and are suddenly just one point behind West Ham and Everton, and two points behind Leicester City. They are certainly not down and out just yet.
Manchester United beat Aston Villa 4-1 to move into fourth place. They leapfrogged Spurs after their disappointing loss against Liverpool.
There were four different scorers for United with Julia Olme, Elisabeth Terland, Jessica Park and Hanna Lundkvist all getting on the scoresheet.
