The game of the weekend in the Premier League takes place on Sunday afternoon (4:30 kick-off – live on Sky Sports Main Event), when Man City and Liverpool go head-to-head.

The last two title winners are currently second and third in the standings ahead of this showdown, with both trying to hang onto the coattails of leaders Arsenal.

City have lost just one of their last seven league fixtures, with just one home defeat to date for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Liverpool have stopped the rot in the last week, securing wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid, but both victories came on home soil.

The Reds have lost their last three Premier League away games, at Brentford, Chelsea and Crystal Palace, but did win at the Etihad on the way to winning the title last season.

Man City Team News XI vs Liverpool

Manager Pep Guardiola made three changes to his starting line-up in Wednesday’s win over Borussia Dortmund and looks likely to tweak things again.

John Stones, Savinho and Tijjani Reijnders were recalled for the Champions League clash, with Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Rayan Cherki dropping to the bench.

Dias looks likely to return at the expense of the fit-again Stones, but the City boss could choose to go with extra legs in midfield and stick with Reijnders ahead of Bernardo.

Rodri and Rayan Ait-Nouri both made late substitute appearances against Bournemouth last week and look set to be on the bench, alongside Omar Marmoush.

Haaland hunting down Shearer

Striker Erling Haaland has already bagged 13 goals in 10 league games and he continues to cement his place as a Premier League legend.

The Norwegian added another goal to his tally in midweek, against his former club Dortmund, and is now closing in on a top-flight century.

Haaland is on 98 league goals in just 107 games for Man City, as he looks to become the 35th player to reach three figures in the Premier League.

Bet365 have made Haaland 5/1 to beat Alan Shearer’s record tally of 260, with the Leeds-born striker well ahead of the England legend at this stage.

Shearer took 124 appearances to reach the 100-goal mark and Haaland looks primed to reach the milestone before he plays 110 matches.

His manager has been full of praise for his striker, saying, “It’s difficult to find a world-class player who is humble and wants to do the best for the team.

“Erling is like that. Of course, he wants to score goals, but the more he is involved (in things like captaining the team), the better it is for him and the club”.

City failed to score in two meetings with Arne Slot’s men last season, but Haaland did find the back of the net when the two teams met at the Etihad in the 2023-24 campaign.
