Concerns over the striker’s fitness have been allayed
Erling Haaland is back in contention for Manchester City after shaking off an injury ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash against Newcastle.
The striker was left out of the squad that faced Salford last weekend after picking up a knock against Fulham the week prior, and his condition is now being closely monitored ahead of the weekend. Haaland was pictured in training on Tuesday, and Pep Guardiola confirmed his striker is back in contention.
There is more positive news on the flanks, with Savinho also ready to return after a quad injury, though fellow wingerJeremy Doku continues to nurse a calf problem.
It is unlikely that the pair will come straight back into the starting line-up, with Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo, Tijjani Reijnders and Phil Foden all options for the weekend.
Young defender Max Alleyne could also return, having been forced off during the FA Cup win over Salford, but Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic remain sidelined for the foreseeable. Abdukodir Khusanov played the full 90 minutes against Salford, opening the door for Matheus Nunes to start at right-back.
Nico O'Reilly should continue his midfield role, having scored against Fulham, alongside Rodri, who had a cameo off the bench last time out.
Manchester City predicted XI: Donnarumma; Nunes, Guehi, Dias, Ait-Nouri; Bernardo, Rodri, O’Reilly; Cherki, Haaland, Semenyo
Doubts: Alleyne
Injured: Kovacic, Gvardiol, Doku
