Pep Guardiola makes sweeping changes for fourth-round trip to Spurs
Pep Guardiola has made sweeping changes for Manchester City against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
Guardiola said he will not take any fitness risks and the City boss has named a number of youngsters in his team at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
The City boss hinted after Saturday’s 1-0 win against Southampton that he would turn to some academy players, and Nico O'Reilly and James McAtee both start.
Stefan Ortega starts in goal and the likes of Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva are rested and on the bench.
Rico Lewis, John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake make up the back four, with captain Ilkay Gundogan, McAtee and O'Reilly behind Savinho, Matheus and Phil Foden in attack.
Kevin De Bruyne has returned to training but is not yet ready to return to first-team action.
Asked about when De Bruyne could return, Guardiola said on Tuesday: “I would like to tell you, and especially I would like to know it, but I don’t know right now.
“He feels better in training, but to go to the level we need in competition, when he kicks the ball, sometimes he still has pain.
“He doesn’t feel right, and Kevin has to feel good to express his huge talent that he has. He’s feeling better, but not the best.
