Manchester United have reportedly agreed to a €50m deal. It's one that carries a massive advantage for Liverpool.
Sport Italia reports that Manchester United are set to sign Ederson from Atalanta. A €50m deal is agreed and should move forward quickly.
If true, this is a massive win for Liverpool. The Reds are set to do battle with their old rivals in the midfielder market this summer over some of the best talents available.
But Liverpool don't appear to have been in the running for Ederson. They haven't been linked with him for a while now, with the likes of Adam Wharton and Aurelien Tchouameni seemingly 'bigger' targets.
And both targets that United are linked with. United are supposedly in for Tchouameni in a big way but signing Ederson does make that one less likely.
The likes of Goal suggest both clubs want Wharton, too. Now, it's entirely possible that United still want another midfielder but the chances of signing all of Liverpool's top targets - or even just competing for them - dramatically decreases with them signing Ederson. Especially after Kobbie Mainoo's improvement this season.
Liverpool should then have a much clearer run at their top targets, particularly Wharton. That can only be considered a win for a window where the Reds simply must get things right.
Crystal Palace Performance and Stats
As of 22 May 2026, Adam Wharton is concluding a highly successful campaign with Crystal Palace, who have navigated their way to an upcoming European final. The 22-year-old England international midfielder has been a crucial component of Oliver Glasner's tactical setup. On 17 May, Wharton celebrated a major personal milestone by scoring his first-ever goal for Crystal Palace in a 2–2 Premier League draw away at Brentford, a low left-footed strike in his 94th appearance for the club.
Wharton’s stellar performances in midfield have sparked a major transfer battle ahead of the summer window, with pundits widely tipping him to make a big-money move. Crystal Palace have reportedly slapped a hefty £80 million price tag on the playmaker. Liverpool are heavily tracking him and are reportedly in "advanced talks" to secure his services, while Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea are also monitoring his situation closely.
