Adam Wharton is considered to be one of the Premier League's most highly-rated midfield prospects and has been subject to plenty of transfer speculation this summer.

Manchester United have shown a keen interest in bringing the ex-Blackburn Rovers man to Old Trafford in search of a ball-playing central midfielder to play alongside Bruno Fernandes in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system.

Wharton certainly fits the description of what United's Portuguese boss wants and has shone in a Crystal Palace side that recently went on to win the FA Cup and FA Community Shield.

After signing for the Eagles at the start of 2024 from Blackburn, Wharton made a name for himself in the EFL and has proven his capabilities in making the step-up to the top-flight.

The 21-year-old joined Rovers at the age of six and progressed right the way through the youth teams before making his professional debut at the age of 18.

After a year and a half at Blackburn, Palace came calling. Fast-forward to now and Wharton has just kicked off his third season for the Eagles. However, with his future up in the air, this may be coming to an end with Manchester United knocking at the door.

After coming through the ranks at Ewood Park, Rovers fans hold Wharton dear to their hearts, and regard the England international as one of their own.

With a move to historically one of the biggest clubs in the country on the cards in Manchester United, it would be a move that Blackburn fans certainly imagined their local lad could make when playing in the Championship.

When asked whether Wharton is good enough for the Red Devils, there was no doubt in the mind of Football League World's Blackburn Rovers fan pundit, Simon Middlehurst, that the answer was "yes".

Middlehurst said: "Adam Wharton is more than good enough for Man United. I think he's the type of player that they need. He's someone who just makes things look easy the way he gets hold of the ball and looks to move forward. He's always looking for that forward pass."

Middlehurst went on to say: "He slots in that CDM role like a natural. I know already that Palace fans think highly of him. There have also been rumours that Real Madrid were also proven to look at him as well."

Plenty of top sides have been monitoring the 21-year-old's progress in a Palace shirt, and with the 2026 FIFA World Cup just around the corner, England fans will surely want Wharton to play a key role in Thomas Tuchel's side, in which a move to a club the size of Manchester United could help the midfielder's cause.

FLW Blackburn Rovers fan pundit, Middlehurst said: "The fact that he's not featured more for England is just a robbery to football."

Reflecting on his time at Blackburn, Middlehurst said: "He's a quality player already, he's a legend at Blackburn, obviously a Blackburn lad. There's a reason why we called him the Wiltshire Pirlo.
